Shift handover briefing

Find out how you can read the handover from the outgoing shift and browse past handover reports.

Written by Emma Ianson

Use Shift Handover Briefing to read the handover from the outgoing shift and browse past handover reports. You can start your shift with the most urgent items in view. Choosing a different Evo Researcher project is for admins and power users.

šŸ“ŒNote: Shift Handover Briefing is read-only. It shows handovers that are already in Evo Researcher, and it doesn't create or edit them.

Read the handover from the previous shift

Use this when you start a shift to read what the outgoing shift left behind. The app shows the newest handover from your Evo Researcher project.

  1. Open Shift Handover Briefing, then click Handover from previous shift. The app shows 'Checking for latest handover…' while it searches.

  2. Check the summary card for the file name, upload date and time, file type, and size.

  3. Click View Previous Shift Handover. The handover opens in the Artifact Viewer.

  4. Read the handover, then click Back to return to the previous screen.

Browse past handover reports

Use this to look back at handovers from earlier shifts.

  1. Open Shift Handover Briefing, then click Historical handover reports.

  2. If you need to, type part of a report name in the search box to narrow the list.

  3. Check the row for the name, upload date and size of the report you need.

  4. Click View on that row. The report opens in the Artifact Viewer.

  5. Read the report, then click Back to return to the list.

Reports are listed newest first. Each row also has a file type badge:

  • Markdown reports have a blue badge.

  • PDF reports have an amber badge.

  • Other file types have a grey badge.

Choose a different Evo Researcher project

Choose a different project only if the app is showing handovers from the wrong project. This is for admins and power users, so most staff won't need to change it.

  1. Click Select Researcher in the top bar.

  2. If there are more than four projects, type in the search box to narrow the list.

  3. Choose the project you need. The app saves your choice straight away and shows a 'Saved' message briefly.

  4. To go back to automatic selection, select Auto-detect. It is marked Recommended.

āš ļøImportant: When you choose a project, automatic selection is switched off. A warning banner reminds you that automatic selection is overridden.

šŸ“ŒNote: Your choice is saved in your browser. Every screen in the app then uses the same project.

How the app finds your project

The outgoing shift uploads a handover document into the connected Evo Researcher project. The file name must contain the word handover.

If you haven't chosen a project, the app uses the first project whose name contains the word handover. This isn't case sensitive, so names such as Handover and shift-handover both match.

If no project name matches, the app has no data source and shows a message explaining what it's looking for.

What you'll see when something isn't ready

The app shows a clear message rather than a blank screen.

Situation

What you see

The app is still fetching the project or handover list.

A spinner with a short status message, such as 'Checking for latest handover…'.

The connector needs an instance chosen.

An instance picker appears before anything else loads.

The connection to Evo Researcher fails.

An error message that names Evo Researcher.

No project name contains the word handover, and no project is chosen.

A message saying that no handover is available or no historical reports were found.

The outgoing shift hasn't uploaded a handover yet.

'The outgoing shift hasn't submitted a handover yet. Check back shortly.'

Troubleshoot the handover

  • If you see 'No handover available' but one was uploaded, check that the file name contains the word handover. Then check that Settings points to the right project.

  • If you see handovers from the wrong project, choose the correct project in Settings. If only one project name contains the word handover, select Auto-detect instead.

  • If an error names Evo Researcher, the app couldn't connect to Evo Researcher. This isn't a file name problem. There is no reconnect step, because the session refreshes automatically. If the error continues, check the permissions and availability of the project in Evo Researcher.
