Daily Exceptions Review

Find out how you can review and action today's urgent care exceptions in one place.

Written by Emma Ianson

Registered Managers, Deputy Managers, Senior Carers and Nurses can use the Daily Exceptions Review app to triage today's urgent care exceptions in one place. The app brings together medication issues, overdue alerts, overdue reviews and active alerts, so you can see what needs attention and action it from a single screen. The categories you see depend on the Access Point of Care modules your organisation has enabled.

You'll be able to open the app, work through the exception list and flag an exception to a colleague.

Open the Daily Exceptions Review app

The app is available as a Quick Action in Evo Navigator.

  • Open Evo Navigator, then click Daily Exceptions from the quick actions.

When the app opens, it loads with:

  • The view mode set to Both, which shows all categories, if you have both medication management and care and clinical modules enabled.

  • The category set to Medication.

  • The status filter set to Pending, so you only see work that still needs attention.

Understand the interface

The app has four areas, stacked from top to bottom.

Area

What it does

Header row

Shows today's date, a Take a tour button, a Refresh button, and the total count of pending actions across every category.

View mode switcher

Lets you switch between Clinical, Medical and Both views, depending on which Access Point of Care modules you have.

Category tiles

Shows one tile per exception category, each with a live pending count. Click a tile to filter the list below.

Exception list

A scrollable list of exception cards for the selected category, with its own status filter bar.

Take the guided tour

The first time you open the app, a guided walkthrough opens automatically. It steps through each part of the screen using real mock-up examples. You can also open the tour at any time.

To open the tour again, use one of these options:

  • Click Take a tour in the header row.

  • Click Take a tour from the options menu, which is the three-dot menu in the Evo app header.

Once the tour is open:

  • Click Next to move forward, or Previous to go back.

  • Click the X button to close the tour.

📌Note: Once you close the tour, it won't open automatically again. You can always open it using Take a tour.

Understand the category tiles

Each tile represents one exception category.

Category

Icon

What it covers

Medication

Pill

Medication errors, omissions or concerns.

Overdue Alerts

Clock

Time-sensitive actions past their due date.

Overdue Reviews

Clipboard

Care plans, assessments and records overdue for review.

Alerts

Bell

Active incidents and staffing concerns requiring attention.

Each tile shows:

  • The category icon and label.

  • A pending count badge, showing the number of unactioned exceptions in that category.

  • A highlighted border and background when it is the active category.

Click any tile to filter the exception list below to that category.

Work through the exception list

The exception list shows every exception for the selected category. The category header restates the category name and its description, and shows either:

  • A pending count badge, such as 3 pending.

  • A green All clear badge, when nothing in that category needs action.

Exceptions are sorted with pending items first, then by when they were raised, most recent first.

The list scrolls independently of the rest of the page, so the header and tiles stay visible while you work through items.

If no exceptions match your current filters, a message explains why. For example, it may say 'All exceptions in this category have been actioned'.

Filter exceptions by status

Directly under the category header is the Show filter bar. Use it to narrow the list by status.

Filter

Shows

All

Every exception in this category.

Pending (default)

Items not yet actioned.

Acknowledged

Items you or a colleague have confirmed and taken ownership of.

Flagged

Items passed on to someone else for action.

Dismissed

Items closed as no longer relevant.

Each filter button shows a live count. Click a filter to apply it straight away, with no page reload.

Review an exception

Each exception appears as a card with a coloured accent bar on the left, matching its category. A collapsed card shows:

  • The status label, for example Pending, and the time it was raised.

  • The exception title.

  • Metadata chips showing the affected person, location, due date and who raised it. Overdue due dates appear in red.

  • Quick action buttons for fast triage without opening the full card.

To expand a card, click the chevron, or click the card itself. The expanded view shows:

  • The full description of the exception.

  • For actioned items, an audit trail showing who actioned it, when, and any notes.

  • For pending items, the full set of action buttons: Acknowledge, Flag and Dismiss.

Flag an exception to a colleague

Use flagging when an exception needs someone else's attention.

⚠️Warning: Acknowledge, Flag and Dismiss are final actions. There's no undo action in the current version, so check the recipient and note before you confirm.

  1. Click Flag on the card.

  2. In the Flag exception dialog:

    • Select a recipient from the list of staff members. This is required.

    • Write a flagging note explaining what's needed and why. This is also required.

The Confirm Flag button stays disabled until both fields are filled in.

  3. Click Confirm Flag.

  4. The card updates to show the status Flagged, followed by the recipient's name. The note and recipient are recorded against the exception, and an Evo feed notification is sent to that person.

Refresh the list

Click Refresh in the header row at any time to reload the latest exception data. While the list refreshes, the button shows a spinning icon and reads 'Refreshing…'. It returns to normal once the refresh is complete.

Tips, troubleshooting and FAQs

I can't see a category I expect. Where did it go?

Category visibility depends on the active view mode. Medication only appears in the Medical or Both views, and Alerts only appears in the Clinical or Both views. Click Both in the view mode switcher to see every category.

I flagged an exception to the wrong person. Can I undo it?

There's no undo action in the current version. Acknowledge, Flag and Dismiss are final actions recorded against the exception. Add a note explaining the correction, and let the newly intended recipient know directly.

Why is Confirm Flag greyed out?

A recipient and a note are both required to flag an exception. The Confirm Flag button becomes available only when both fields have content.

How do I know if something is overdue?

Overdue due dates show in red, with text such as '2d overdue'. Upcoming due dates show in amber, with text such as 'Due tomorrow'.

What's next

Now that you know how to work through today's exceptions, you can:

  • Read the Exception Briefing article to find out when the briefing arrives and who receives it.

  • Open the guided tour at any time if you want a refresher on any part of the screen.
