GP Connect allows you to view live NHS GP records directly within Access Point of Care. This gives care teams instant access to key information such as medications, allergies, and medical history, helping support safer and faster care decisions.
📌Note: GP Connect must be activated before use. Your organisation must complete NHS requirements and configuration. See Activate GP Connect for your organisation to get started.
What is GP Connect?
GP Connect is a secure NHS integration that allows authorised users to:
Access real‑time GP patient records
View structured data such as:
Medications
Allergies
Diagnoses
Clinical history
Link residents securely using NHS validation
Access up‑to‑date information for care planning
This removes the need to contact GP practices for routine information.
How GP Connect works
GP Connect retrieves data securely from NHS systems.
Key features:
NHS validation (PDS) – confirms resident identity
Live GP data retrieval – pulls records from GP systems
Role-based access – controls what users can see
Audit logging – records all access for compliance
Before you start
You must ensure:
GP Connect is enabled for your facility
You have the correct user permissions
Resident details match NHS records exactly
Set up GP Connect
Enable GP Connect (Admin only)
Go to Admin
Open Facility settings
Tick Enable GP Connect
Enter the ASID
Click Save
📌Note: The GP Connect tab will not appear until this is completed.
Set user permissions
Go to:
Admin → Role Management → Permissions → Resident Care
Assign:
GpConnectData (View) → view GP data
GpConnectData (Modify) → link residents
GpConnectFullView (View) → full record access
⚠️Important: Users must have View permission to access GP Connect.
Prepare resident records
To successfully link a resident, ensure the following fields match NHS records exactly:
First name
Last name
Date of birth
Gender
NHS number
GP practice ODS code
⚠️Important: Even small differences (e.g. spelling) will prevent linking.
Link a resident to GP Connect
Open the resident profile
Click the GP Connect tab
Click Set up GP Connect
Review the NHS details returned
Confirm the details are correct
Click Continue
The resident will now be linked.

NHS details match
Resident is linked
❌ Resident not found
Check name, DOB, and gender
Confirm the resident has not opted out
⚠️ Multiple matches
Verify NHS number and ODS code
Check all demographic details
⛔ Deceased or restricted record
GP Connect cannot be used
Contact your Information Governance lead

Once linked, the GP Connect tab shows:
Medications
Allergies
Diagnoses
Test results
Consultations
Immunisations
📌Note: Data is live and read-only – it updates directly from NHS systems.
Use date filters
If you have full access:
Enter a From and To date
Click Filter
📌Note: Date filtering requires GpConnectFullView permission.
System behaviour
Data is not stored in Access Point of Care
Records are pulled in real time
A loading message appears while data is retrieved
Errors will display if the NHS service is unavailable
